KBS150:Weed and Fertilizer Study in T3 and T4

A microplot study was conducted in the Reduced input (T3) and Biologically based (T4) treatments of the LTER Main Cropping System Experiment (2006-2014) to examine the effect of weed control and fertilization on crop yields. Microplot treatments were a factorial combination of 3 weed control strategies and 2 fertilization levels for a total of 6 microplots, each 15 ft wide (E-W) by 50 ft long (N-S) and randomly assigned within a block in the northwest corner of each replicate (R1-R6). Weed control strategies included: Business as Usual (BAU, same weed control as the main T3 or T4 plots); Weed Free (no weeds allowed to become established); and No Weed Control (no form of weed control). Fertilizer was applied at two levels: Fertilized (same level as applied to the Conventional T1 main plots) and Unfertilized (no fertilizer applied).

Tables

KBS020-004 Agronomic Yields of the Weed and Fertilizer Study

Agronomic grain yields of corn, soybean, and wheat, at standard moisture, from the Weed and Fertlizer Study in MCSE Treatments 3 and 4 microplots.

KBS150-001 Non-crop Biomass of the Weed and Fertilizer Study

To estimate weed pressure, the aboveground biomass of non-crop species in the Weed and Fertilizer Study microplots was sampled just before harvest of main crops and cover crops. Plants within a quadrat were clipped at ground level, either sorted to species, or into grasses and forbs, or left unsorted, then dried and weighed.
