KBS078:KBS GLBRC soil properties

Soil property measurements from the surface soils of the intensive experiment

  • Status: active
  • Temporal Coverage 2008-01-01 to 2019-12-04

Tables

KBS078-001 Soil pH

Soil pH from the surface soils of the GLBRC Intensive Sites.

KBS078-002 Soil Moisture - Gravimetric

Soil moisture measurements from the GLBRC Intensive site.

KBS078-003 Soil Bulk Density - Surface and Deep Cores

Soil bulk density of surface and deep core soil samples from the GLBRC Biofuel Intensive site.

KBS078-006 Soil Inorganic Nitrogen

Soil extractable nitrogen from soils of the Switchgrass Nitrogen/Harvest Experiment at the GLBRC Biofuel Intensive site. Plants are grown under 8 treatments of nitrogen fertilizer and two harvest strategies.

KBS078-007 Soil Inorganic Nitrogen

Soil extractable nitrogen from the GLBRC Biofuel Cropping System Experiment. Soil nitrate and ammonium are sampled routinely during the growing season. Note that in 2009 inorganic N was determined using the resin strip method; see related tables below.

KBS078-008 Soil Inorganic Nitrogen via Resin Strips

Soil nitrate and ammonium data for the GLRBC Biofuel Intensive site determined using the resin strip method. This method was only used in 2009. See Related Tables below for additional inorganic N data.

KBS078-011 Soil Moisture via TDR - Daily

Automatically cleaned daily median volumetic soil moisture from the TDR array on the GLBRC Biofuel Intensive site. The hourly data is passed through a 13 point median filter, then the daily median is retrieved and the result is passed through a 3 point filter that passes the middle point if the vwc is within 0.03 % of the mean of the surrounding points if it did not rain in the last 2 days. If it did rain it middle point is accepted if it is higher than the mean of the outside points. There are still some points that should be deleted.

KBS078-012 Agronomic Soil Chemistry

Soil samples are taken annually (usually in the Fall) for fertilizer recommendations and analyzed for pH, lime index, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, cation exchange capacity and organic matter.

KBS samples are analyzed by the Michigan State University Soil and Plant Nutrient Laboratory .

KBS078-013 Soil Texture by Depth - Deep Cores

Soil texture from the GLBRC Intensive site.

KBS078-017 Soil Carbon and Nitrogen- Baseline Prior to GLBRC Intensive Site
KBS078-020 Field Moist Soil pH

Field moist soil pH from the Switchgrass N gradient taken to evaluate the need for liming.
