Plant total carbon and nitrogen content and complete nutrient analyses of new growth leaves of poplar trees in MCSE T5 fertilizer study microplots. Total carbon and nitrogen were measured at KBS; remaining nutrients measured by MSU Plant and Soil Nutrient Laboratory.
This datatable is part of the MCSE Poplar N Fertilization Study dataset.
This dataset contains the results of the N fertilization study conducted in microplots of the Main Cropping System Experiment (MCSE) Poplar treatment (T5) from 2010–2018. Trees planted in 2008 were exposed to different N fertilization rates (N1-N6), as described below and in the protocol. Leaf chemical composition, tree basal diameter, and harvest yield were measured to examine the effects of N fertilization on poplar growth and production.
- N1 = 0 lbs N/acre
- N2 = 50 lbs N/acre; applied once in 2011
- N3 = 100 lbs N/acre; applied once in 2011
- N4 = 50 lbs N/acre; applied annually 2011-2017
- N5 = 100 lbs N/acre; applied annually 2011-2017
- N6 = 100 lbs N/acre; applied once in the year prior to harvest; but did not occur, so N6 = 0 lbs N/acre
