MCSE SCALE-UP EXPERIMENT (retired)

LTER Scaleup FieldsThe MCSE Scale-up Experiment was a long-term study to test the scaleability of research results from the 1-ha plots of the Main Cropping System Experiment (MCSE) at the LTER Main Site. In Fall 2006, 27 commercially-managed fields by the KBS dairy were assigned to one of three annual crop treatments (T1, T3, or T4) and to one of three rotation entry points (corn, soybean, or wheat). This design provided three replicate fields for each treatment by entry point combination.

Treatments included Conventional (T1), Reduced Input (T3), and Biologically Based (T4 ) management. Fields ranged in size from 1 to 7.5 ha, adjoined a variety of different habitat types, and had a variety of perimeter complexities. Agronomic inputs and yields are available. The last year of the experiment was 2013.
