The Kellogg Biological Station Long Term Ecological Research (KBS LTER) project is a comprehensive program of research, education, and engagement focused on understanding the ecology of intensive field-crop production and its environmental consequences. In other words, we provide science-based information to help make farming both profitable and good for the environment. While the lifespan of most agricultural research projects is only a few years, KBS LTER research has been going on for over thirty years.

We are located at Michigan State University’s (MSU) W.K. Kellogg Biological Station, about 60 miles southwest of the main MSU campus in East Lansing.
