Presented at the GLBRC Sustainability Retreat (2010-02-10 to 2010-02-12 )
We used the ecosystem process model Biome-BGC to simulate different harvest strategies within the forested landscape of northern Wisconsin and the subsequent effects on the forest carbon © cycle. For a low productivity (jack pine) and high productivity site (sugar maple) we simulated the effects of harvest intensity, interval, and amount of utilized harvest residues on site C balance and soil nutrient removal. For the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest we examined the effects of harvest intensity on forest productivity and overall forest C balance.
