Average concentrations of nitrate (NO3-N) and ammonium (NH4-N), expressed as micrograms N per gram dry soil, in surface soils (0-25 cm) of MCSE treatments. Treatment averages are derived from datatable KBS021-002.

This datatable is part of the Soil Inorganic Nitrogen on the Main Cropping System Experiment dataset.

This dataset contains the inorganic nitrogen concentration and nitrogen mineralization potential of surface soils (0-25 cm) of the Main Cropping System Experiment (MCSE) at the LTER Main Site (Treatments 1-8, since 1989) and the Mid-successional (TSF) and Forested (TCF, TDF) sites (since 1993). Soil samples are routinely collected once or twice monthly during the growing season, composited by treatment replicate, and analyzed for ammonium and nitrate (plus nitrite); on a near annual basis subsamples are reburied in the field for estimation of nitrogen mineralization potential.
